Rab was founded by Rab Carrington, one of Britain's top mountaineers. Rab has long since sold his company but the new owners are very much continuing with the same aim - providing mountaineering clothing that can deal with the very worst of British conditions. And if it can cope with that it can cope with anything! Rab gear has gone from strength to strength in recent years and we are proud to support it as our main brand of outdoor clothing.
Although, like most big outdoor clothing and equipment brands, most Rab gear is made in the Far East, but this does not mean that it is cheap or ethically dodgy. For instance, Rab down equipment is made using sterilised washed and sorted down from mature Eastern European Geese. This results in down in smaller clusters that loft better, and is much cleaner than much of the Chinese down that is used in many cheaper sleeping bags and duvet jackets. Because Rab down is so clean, it is less likely to irritate allergy sufferers: most allergies are to the dust in the down, not the down itself.
NB Please note, that we do not stock a full size range of the more technical products, though these are often available quickly to order particularly early in the season (ie September for winter clothing and April for summer stuff). The more generalist products tend to sell out quickly so that we cannot always get stock in at all times. If you are planning a 7000m+ expedition and need specialist down clothing, please order as early as possible.
